Nkonzo playing a piano

This week we had a chat with Nkonzo Simelane who shares about his passion for teaching the word of God and his commitment to seeing the church fulfill its purpose. He discusses his theological training, his journey into hosting piano lessons, and the ways he integrates music with his ministry. The conversation also touches on his inspirations, the impact of his work on young people, and offers advice on prioritising spiritual growth.

Career Chat: Could you share what your life’s calling is and describe sone of the activities associated with it?

Nkonzo: Firstly, let me take the opportunity to thank you for having as a part of this great publication. It is truly an honour. Well, my life’s calling is to see the church of Jesus Christ doing the good works which God predestined and planned before hand for her and living the good life which God prearranged and made ready for her to live, thus positively affecting the world around her. And one of the ways in which I ensure that becomes a reality is to teach the pure and undiluted word of God to the body of Jesus Christ.

Career Chat: We understand you are currently going through theological training, tell us about what inspired you to undertake this training?

Nkonzo: Well part of what inspired me to undertake theological training was some of the complexities and few questions that I came across while studying the Bible. And that made me to seek to further my knowledge in the Bible to ensure that I also rightly divide the word of God when sharing it to God’s people.

Career Chat: You also host piano lessons. When did you start this project? What prompted you to venture into that space?
Nkonzo: I am fortunate to teach piano as well. My motivation came from the challenges I faced while learning the instrument—it was a tough process for me. This struggle inspired me to pursue formal music studies and advance my musical career. Now, I aim to help aspiring musicians with their projects.

Career Chat: How many students have you taken through this training?
Nkonzo: To date, I have provided training to ten (10) students and have mentored numerous others.

Career Chat: Could you please elaborate on the music ministry projects you have participated in, and share the names of individuals or groups you have collaborated with?

Nkonzo: Well by God’s grace I can say that I first started working alongside my Eswatini Gospel Artists like the likes of Frans Dlamini, Linda Dlamini, Nothando Hlophe, Nothando Dlamini, Bongani Simelane and many others. At that time, I was directing the Eswatini Gospel Music Awards before moving to South Africa to advance my musical career. During my time in South Africa, I collaborated with prominent Gospel artists, including Ayanda Shange, Omega Khunou, Collen Maluleke, Putuma Tiso, Jabu Hlongwane, Mthunzi Namba, and the renowned Joyous Celebration, among others.

Career Chat: How have you used your music career to support your preaching ministry?

Nkonzo: My music career has helped my preaching, as combining music and preaching can bring positive change to people’s lives.

Career Chat: Who are some of the people who inspire you in your career and calling?
Nkonzo: Some of my inspirations in my musical career include the likes of the late Quinnell Gaskins, Kevin Bond, Aaron Lindsey and Paris Bowens just to name a few and my inspirations in my calling include the likes of Apostle Arome Osayi, the late Reverend Keneth Hagin and Apostle MA Simelane just to name a few.

Career Chat: What guidance would you offer to young individuals seeking inspiration from your professional journey?

Nkonzo: I’d say to the young people physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come (1 Timothy 4:8). So, with that said, let us all labour to ensure that our relationship with Jesus takes priority above all else and that Jesus takes the chief place in all that pertains to our lives and by so doing, we can be assured of a bright future ahead of us.

Career Chat: Those who would like to take piano lessons, how can they reach you?
Nkonzo: For those who would love to take piano lessons with me can feel free to contact me on (+268) 79604654 and they can also find me on WhatsApp on the same number. I am also available on Facebook as Simelane Nkonzo and on Instagram as Nkonzo Simelane.
